Abstract
This study was conducted to provide the basis for providing correct oral health management for the purpose of improving the quality of life related to oral health to the elderly people. Data were collected through a self-written questionnaire survey for 239 people working in six elderly nursing home in J-do province. Analysis was performed using PASW statistics 18.0(IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). As a result of the study, looking at the oral care provided to the elderly by nursing facility workers, it was found that the most common cases of oral care were 3 times or more with 1 to 10 patients, and there was no oral care guidebook in the nursing facility appeared to be more. Those who needed education on correct brushing(p<.05) and use of oral hygiene aids(p<.05) showed high in oral health concern. Therefore, in order for nursing facility workers to practice proper oral health management, oral health education according to the oral condition of the elderly is required. In addition, it is thought that it is necessary to develop a customized oral care guidebook that includes dental plaque management such as correct brushing, denture management, and oral hygiene aids so that nursing facility workers can easily use it in practice. In order to promote and maintain oral health in terms of oral health welfare for the elderly, it is suggested that an expert oral care system for the elderly in nursing facilities should be prepared.
